Reporter Topic:LES Study of Unsteady Cavitation Characteristics of 3-D Hydrofoils with Wavy Leading Edges

Reporter: Professor Ehsan Roohi, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad

Time: 9:30, Oct.18, 2019

Location:Academic Hall of State Key Laboratory

Dr. Ehsan Roohi received his Ph.D. degree from Sharif University of Technology of Iran in 2010. He is currently a associate Professor from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Mashhad, Iran

In this report, Large Eddy Simulation (LES) approach with the Kunz mass transfer model within the two-phase flow solver of the OpenFOAM package, interPhaseChangeFoam, are employed to simulate the dynamic and unsteady behavior of cavitation. Compared to the straight leading edge hydrofoil, it provided a thorough report of time-averaged and instantaneous fluid dynamic characteristics of the cavitating flow around the sinusoidal leading edge hydrofoil, i.e., pressure, velocity, and vorticity fields, as well as lift and drag coefficient, turbulent kinetic energy, and boundary layer characteristics are described.
